Be My Muse

I keep sitting down to write blog posts this month, and I keep deciding I don't have much to say. I've been keeping busy with more side projects than usual, and for once, juggling side projects hasn't meant throwing a few of them so far in the air that I forget I'm juggling them. There's ample subject matter to discuss...but nothing stands out as particularly post-worthy (not that that's ever stopped me before!).

Still, the urge to write is there. I've been fixin' for a philosophical post, but I don't know what about. I want to geek out about something, preferably something different from my usual fare, but I keep coming back to things I'd prefer to contribute to GameCola than post here. I have the drive to share thoughts, stories, something, but I lack a topic to anchor and inspire me. So, if there's anything you want to see me write about, now's a great time to request it. I'll talk about absolutely anything if you're genuinely interested, though anything I discuss here will need to go through my "Is this appropriate for a public blog accessible by children and potential employers alike?" filter first.

So go ahead. Suggest away!

Why don't you write about a game/ series that you love/hate that everyone else seems to hate/love? That's always interesting for a different perspective.

There's an idea! I did that for Zelda once; Final Fantasy is the only other series where my opinion is drastically different from the mainstream's, though there are certainly individual games I enjoy much more/less than everyone else seems to.

What about doing something on some of your favorite niche/indie games? Or maybe some stuff about the Space Quest series? I really enjoyed your playthrough of Space Quest 0.

Thanks! SQ0 was a lot of fun to do. I might take a peek through my Backloggery to see what I can rustle up for a post. I've already written a fair amount about Space Quest over the years, so I might not dedicate a post to just that, but ya never know.

How about something along the lines of: Top games you've played that while enjoyable could benefit from a remake (or redo)?

Not merely just in terms of fancier graphics/sound, but more along the lines of 1 or 2 added or expanded gameplay elements per game to enhance the game experience (more specifically, games that had great ideas going for them, but didn't fulfill their full potential in key spots). Perhaps writing it along similar lines to what you did in those Exfanding articles you did a while back for "Mega Man is broken" or "Star Wars is broken" with ways you'd fix/improve them.

Playing the recent remakes for Ducktales and Bionic Commando: Re-armed brought this to mind.

Or even flipping the coin on what I wrote above: What games would you never want to be seen remade or reworked, and _why_ doing so (based on some of today's popular gameplay trends) would ruin what the original game is all about?

Good ideas! I like the thought of reviving the franchise-fixing series of posts, but applying that to an unrelated assortment of games instead. I don't know if I'd have as much to say about the games I'd prefer not to see remade, but that's worth considering as well.
