Samples of my writing.
Writing is a passion of mine, and the reason we still have trees is that I do most of my writing electronically. Here are some writing samples that showcase me at my most eloquent, thoughtful, creative, amusing, accessible, and versatile; ones I'm liable to run back to save, should the Internet ever burn down:
Stories:
- Enjoying the Passage of Time (about the first time I saw James Taylor in concert)
- Mischief Managed! (about the eight-movie Harry Potter movie marathon my wife and I hosted)
- EarthBound for Disaster (about revisiting one of my favorite video games from my childhood)
- OH JOES! Developer Diary: Timeline of a Dream (about accomplishing my longtime dream of developing a video game)
Critical Assessments:
- Clash of the Eggnogs: A Holiday Taste Test (a head-to-head comparison of 14 varieties of eggnog)
- Muramasa: The Demon Blade (Wii) (me at my most ridiculous, channeling Cranky Kong from Donkey Kong Country to review a Japanese-themed action game)
- Gradius (NES) (a review of Gradius, a vintage space action game)
- Worlds Apart (a review of the film Jurassic World)
Guides:
- A User's Guide to Star Trek: The Original and Animated Series
- So You Want to Be a Minor Internet Celebrity?
Fiction:
- Bedtime Stories From the Final Frontier; or, Boldly Go to Sleep (subtle commentary on Star Trek: Discovery in the guise of a short story, in true Star Trek fashion)
Sensitive Topics:
- Open Letter to the American Public (politics)
- The Case for Christ (religion)
